Général présentation

The « communauté de communes de la Montagne du Haut-Languedoc » merges La Salvetat-sur-Agout,Le Soulié,Fraisse-sur-Agout,Cambon and Salvergues situated in the Hérault and Anglès and Lamontélarié in the Tarn.
These villages form a geographical entity positioned in the centre of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Languedoc.
The territory spreads over 89414 acres(36200 hectares) with 2269 inhabitants.

Lamontélarié: 5434 acres – 71 inhabitants – 2 inhab/km²
Anglès : 21242 acres – 563 inhabitants – 7 inhab/km²
La Salvetat-sur Agout : 22230 acres – 1118 inhabitants – 13 inhab/km²
Le Soulié : 9880 acres – 121 inhabitants – 3 inhab/km²
Fraisse-sur-Agout : 14820 acres – 322 inhabitants – 6 inhab/km²
Cambon et Salvergues : 17290 acres – 74 inhabitants – 1 inhab/km²

The « communauté de communes de la Montagne du Haut-Languedoc » was created by-law on December 30th 1992. It was one of the first in France and the first in the department of the Hérault. Anglès and Lamontélarié adhered to the community by-law on December 28th 2000.They have progressively extended the scope of their activities to other missions, especially concerning town planning, the right of property and also for the construction of sports and socioeducational facilities.

At first ,three purposes
  • improve a policy and an intercommunal dynamics already present in the first intercommunal associations.
  • develop a particular territorial specificity (a wet moutain) in a mediterranean region.
  • share a new economic and tax ressource which corresponds to the arrival of the society of Evian the mineral water bottling firm.
  • The skills of the “communauté de communes”
    Currently, the “communauté de communes” has all the necessary skills concerning :
  • the regional development :
    a town plannning policy (PLU and SCOT), the processing of planning permissions, the recording of cadastres and local networks (AEP, improving of the sanitation), implementation of a farming policy…
  • the economic development :
    constructions of infrastructures, tourist development, creation of activity area, reception of people who have some plans and help to make easier the setting up of small-scale, industrial and commercial companies.
  • the way to protect and develop the environment:
    a selective waste collection, the creation and the maintenance of climbing circuits, the cleaning of the banks, the renovation of the outstanding heritage, the construction of sewage treatment plants, the aesthetically improvement of electric and telecom networks.
  • the improvement of low voltage electric networks
  • the maintenance and the expansion of the public lighting local networks
  • the funeral director’s and the transport of the dead after having been placed in the coffin
  • the construction of sports and cultural facilities
  • the development of the means to have access to the technology of the information and to the communication intented for private and public partners
  • the preservation of the literary heritage
